The Lanoguard journey started over 35 years ago in rural Australia. The person who went on to found Lanoguard wondered why the shearing sheds and farm buildings were always in such good condition.
Over time he realised that the natural properties of wool grease were the reason. This was the start of Lanoguard being used to protect steel buildings, farm equipment and boats.
The second phase is in New Zealand and Lanoguard NZ Ltd has been developing and manufacturing different grades of liquid and grease in Leigh, north of Auckland for over 15 years.
The third phase is in the UK, where Lanoguard Ltd has developed an impressive online business, with a focus on Vehicle Underbody Care. Go to https://www.lanoguard.co.uk/ to learn more.
Lanoguard is kinder to the environment than products that rely on hydrocarbons to lubricate or protect against rust
The most important difference regarding effectiveness is that Lanoguard will stay in place and adhere tenaciously. It cannot be washed off and it won't evaporate. This means it stays in place and keeps working long after petroleum-based products.
Also, being non-perishing and non-leaching, it can be applied easily on multiple surface types.
Rust is the result of exposure of steel to oxygen and moisture. Lanoguard adheres to steel and this prevents ingress of oxygen and moisture. This stops rust dead.

The main factor is exposure to UV, so the greater the exposure to high levels of UV, the shorter the life span.
Lanoguard will last longer on a vehicle underbody than on a boat.
We recommend applying Lanoguard every six months.
Lanoguard is classified as non-hazardous and it does not harm people, animals or the environment. You don't need to wear protective gear, but most people prefer to use rubber gloves and overalls.
The primary ingredient is lanolin which comes from sheep wool.
Yes, it does. This comes from Lanoguard being non-conductive and creating a hermetic seal.
Lanoguard forms a hermetic seal, preventing surfaces from coming into contact with each other. This means that Lanoguard acts as a cold-weld prevention barrier, anti-corrosion and anti-seize agent.
It is best to remove any flaking or unstable rust first. Lanoguard has a natural affinity to ferrous metals so it will bond the metal beneath the rust and form a hermetic seal. This prevents oxygen and water ingress and stops further rust from forming.
Using a rust converter before applying Lanoguard is fine.
You must allow the convertor to fully cure before applying Lanoguard over the top of it.
Do ensure that the rust treatment is a nice thin even coating as this will help it to cure better.
But you do not need to use a rust convertor before Lanoguard.
Lanoguard will stop rust further by suffocating it and excluding oxygen and water. Both are needed to enable rust to form.
Some of our customers choose to use a convertor, usually for aesthetic reasons. This turns rust into a bluey black colour.
It is best to allow a surface to dry before applying Lanoguard as this will give optimal results.
Clean the surface to be treated and remove any unsound areas such as rust, flaking or laminating. A jet-wash or water-blaster is generally best, but wire-brushing and wiping should be fine too.
There are two ways to do this. The first is to use a citrus-based cleaner and the second is steam-cleaning. Note that Lanoguard adheres tenaciously. Mask any areas you don't want to be coated with Lanoguard.
Yes, as Lanoguard Grease maintains its unique properties regardless of temperature. We recommend filling a bucket with hot water from the tap and placing the jar of grease in the bucket.
The active ingredient is Lanolin and this provides natural protection. Lano + Guard = Lanoguard. We use high-grade lanolin that is sourced from New Zealand.
Lanoguard Liquid does contain what we regard as the cleaner part of hydrocarbons. Our blending process ensures that the finished product is non-hazardous.
